What You Learn
Students learn the business of sport, including management, leadership, and operational skills that will prepare students for opportunities in the sport and recreation industry. The curriculum, dedicated faculty, and experiential learning, enable students to develop content knowledge in several contexts, professional dispositions, ethical-decision making, reflective thinking, and written and oral communication skills.
How You Learn
This unique program offers students learning experiences in a variety of formats, including face-to-face courses, blended hybrid courses, and fully online courses. Students outside the Des Moines area can also attend the face-to-face courses remotely. Experiential learning in sport management is crucial to students gaining or expanding their experience in sport and refining career intentions. At Grand View, we have developed relationships with organizations that provide multiple internship opportunities in the Des Moines community and beyond, as well as graduate assistantships in a variety of fields.
Career Outcomes
Grand View’s M.S. in Sport Management program prepares students for managerial positions in sport organizations, including marketing, event management, or communications positions for professional sport teams or leagues, collegiate athletic administration and coaching, or positions in a wide range of private and public sport and recreation organizations. Individuals who complete the MSSM degree, and have a valid coaching authorization, are also able to apply for authorization to hold an active role as an Athletic/Activities administrator in the state of Iowa. Grand View’s MSSM degree meets the requirements set by the Iowa State Board of Educational Examiners, allowing individuals who do not have a teaching degree to become Authorized Athletics/Activities Administrators.
