Highly qualified general education teachers who are interested in advancing their career and becoming prepared to meet the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse students in the general education classroom.

What You Learn

Students gain expertise in: various language acquisition theories and methods of instruction; understanding of linguistic challenges that are encountered by Culturally Linguistically Diverse students in schools; and applying linguistic concepts in educational contexts, such as, phonology, morphology, and etymology of words.

How You Learn

Fully Online: You will log into Blackboard to complete assignments, participate in online discussions, and complete group activities. While there are no face-to-face meetings, some of the activities may include chats, discussion boards, recorded and/or live webinars, and various web links for viewing. You will also have a field experience and be provided an opportunity to design and deliver instruction for ELL students and consider their experiences in schools and the community.

Career Outcomes

Upon completion of the English Language Learners Endorsement, students are able to advance their career and increase their teaching opportunities. Students are prepared to teach English language learners K-12, become more effective with teaching English Language Learners in their own classrooms, or become a mentor teacher to assist other educators in effectively meeting the needs of English Language Learners.
